“I used to have a terribly hard and tiring job, which paid very little. I had to work all day every day, but at least I could feed my family. But in early 2008 I lost even that job. I was desperate because now my family had nothing. We did not even have enough money for food.

In my despair I decided to leave my family and try to find work in Lima. I thought that maybe I could send some money home to feed my family. It was a very difficult decision because I did not want to leave my wife and children alone in that situation.

I started to pray: ‘Lord, I do not want to go to Lima and abandon my children. Please help me, God!’ The same night I went to my prayer group. I arrived late because on my way I had stopped to inquire about third class bus fares to Lima. I was completely desperate.

When I arrived at the Bible study, pastor Marcelo Llanos looked at me and said out of the blue: ‘Hermán, how are you? Would you like to start your own micro-enterprise?’ I stared at him with a big wondering smile - how could he have known? Then I said that it has always been my dream to operate my own moto-taxi.

After some preparations, I received an interest-free mini loan from Chance e.V.: 1500 dollars for my own business! I made the down payment for my moto-taxi and have been working as an independent taxi driver. In the first months I was able to pay another 900 dollars for the moto-taxi and repay the 1500 dollars to Chance-Peru. I am happy because this way the same money can help several people, not just me and my family.

I am so happy. This mini-loan has not just saved us from extreme poverty, it also protected our family from disintegration. We are all very grateful for this.

The help arrived just in the moment when our need was the greatest and I was secretly crying out to God. The donors and supporters of Chance e.V. have shown that they hear the voice of God. For me these people have become the hand of God that has saved my family from misery!
